Technical Requirements

Getting the most out of your BrainFlow Digital financial analysis learning experience requires the right technical setup. We've designed our platform to work on most modern devices, but here's what you need to know.

Don't worry if some of this sounds technical – our support team in Kota Kinabalu is ready to help you get everything working smoothly.

Computer Requirements

You'll need a reasonably modern computer or laptop. Nothing fancy – most devices from 2018 onwards will work perfectly fine.

Component Minimum Requirement
Processor Intel i3 / AMD Ryzen 3 or equivalent
RAM 4GB (8GB recommended)
Storage 2GB free space
Display 1366×768 resolution minimum

Most laptops sold in Malaysian electronics stores over the past few years will meet these requirements easily. If you're unsure about your device, our team can help you check.

Internet Connection

A stable internet connection is essential for accessing course materials and participating in live sessions.

  • Minimum speed: 5 Mbps download
  • Recommended: 25 Mbps for HD video content
  • Stable connection preferred over fast but inconsistent
  • Mobile data can work, but WiFi is more reliable

Malaysian internet providers like TIME, Maxis, and Unifi typically offer speeds well above our requirements. If you experience connection issues, try positioning closer to your router or consider upgrading your plan.

Mobile Devices

While our courses work on phones and tablets, we strongly recommend using a computer for the best learning experience.

  • iOS 12+ (iPhone 7 or newer)
  • Android 8.0+ with 3GB RAM
  • Tablet screen size: 9" minimum recommended
  • Updated mobile browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

Financial analysis involves detailed charts and spreadsheets that are much easier to work with on larger screens. Mobile access is great for reviewing materials on the go, but plan to use a computer for assignments.

Software Setup

You don't need to buy expensive software. Most of what we use is either web-based or freely available.

  • Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (free)
  • PDF reader (most devices include this)
  • Updated web browser
  • Zoom for live sessions (free account)

We'll provide step-by-step installation guides when you enroll. Google Sheets works perfectly for our coursework and doesn't require purchasing Microsoft Office, though if you already have it, that's fine too.

Audio & Video

Good audio quality makes a huge difference in online learning. Video isn't always required, but helpful for interactive sessions.

  • Headphones or earbuds (reduces background noise)
  • Built-in microphone (for asking questions)
  • Webcam optional but recommended
  • Quiet learning space when possible

Even basic earbuds will improve your experience significantly compared to laptop speakers. If you're joining from a busy household, letting family members know your study schedule helps create a better learning environment.

Power & Backup

Malaysia's tropical weather can bring unexpected power interruptions. Being prepared keeps your learning on track.

  • Laptop with good battery life preferred over desktop
  • Power bank for mobile device backup
  • Save work frequently (we remind you!)
  • Alternative internet source if possible

Our platform automatically saves your progress, but it's still good practice to save spreadsheet work regularly. Mobile hotspot can be a lifesaver during WiFi outages.

Browser Compatibility

Our platform works best with recent versions of popular browsers. Here's what we support and test regularly:

Google Chrome

Version 90+ recommended. Best overall performance.

Mozilla Firefox

Version 88+ supported. Great privacy features.

Safari

Version 14+ on Mac/iOS. Works well on Apple devices.

Microsoft Edge

Latest version recommended. Good Windows integration.

Common Questions

My internet is slow in the evenings. Will this affect my studies?
Malaysian internet can get congested during peak hours (7-10 PM). Our video content is optimized for varying speeds, and you can download materials during off-peak hours. Live sessions are recorded, so you can catch up later if needed.
Can I use my tablet for the entire course?
While technically possible, we don't recommend it. Financial analysis involves working with detailed spreadsheets and charts that are much more manageable on a proper computer. Tablets are great for reviewing content and watching videos though.
Do I need to buy Microsoft Office?
Not at all. Google Sheets (free) handles everything we cover in the course. It's actually what many of our students prefer because it saves automatically to the cloud and works from any device.
What if I have technical problems during a live session?
Don't panic! All live sessions are recorded. If you experience issues, focus on reconnecting rather than trying to troubleshoot during the session. You can always watch the recording and ask questions in our next session.
My computer is from 2016. Will it work?
Probably! If it can run a modern web browser smoothly and handle basic spreadsheet work, you should be fine. We recommend testing with Google Sheets and watching a YouTube video simultaneously. If that works without lag, you're all set.
